Benicar was approved by the FDA in 2002 to treat high blood pressure. The manufacturers of the drug – Daiichi Sankyoonly – only performed three months of clinical trials (as opposed to the typical 6 months to years) and did not include several side effect warnings in its marketing materials. Many patients complained of severe intestinal pain, nutrient malabsorption and extreme weight loss.
Multiple lawsuits have been filed against pharmaceutical company Daiichi Sankyo for deceptive advertising and failure to warn of the potential for serious side effects and permanent injury. Patients who have been injured by Benicar may be eligible for actual and punitive damages.
